SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION: Buster In "Night Weekly"

For their special WMC issue, the Sun Post's new progressive weekly publication, "NIGHT WEEKLY" somehow got it into their heads that profiling me would be a good idea.

Those poor deluded bastards.......

Pick one up for free throughout Miami all this week.

"King of night life TV

It’s Friday night. Skip the $1,000
table and, instead, stay home and tune
into A3TV, America’s first night life and
style network.

The cutting-edge TV concept focuses on fashion, nightlife, clubs, photo shoots and progressive music, and has produced the hottest DJ interviews and performances, featured the sexiest models and created some of the funniest original sketches in quite some time.
Since the launch of A3TV in September 2003, the network has been broadcasted to millions of living rooms throughout South Florida, including Miami Beach, Hollywood, Stuart and West Palm Beach.
The master behind the magic of A3 is Boston-born Buster Cox, whose real name is Justin Altshuler. Buster’s charm, wit and sheer sex appeal have made him the toast of South Beach and a certifiable star who’s plugged viewers into some of South Florida’s most exclusive parties.
He’s interviewed everyone in the industry, but his favorite was with the legendary British DJ Paul Oakenfold. “I had preconceptions before I met him, but it turns out he’s a great guy,” Buster said. “I was always fascinated with how comfortable he is with people, how he makes you feel comfortable. I mean, he asked more questions
than I did.”
Still, on most evenings, this experienced broadcaster prefers to chill at
his South Beach flat. “You know, you can become jaded after 200 30-second conversations in a night that end up going nowhere,” he said. “I’m lucky that I’m not an industry guy. I’m comfortable at home watching the The Daily Show and Steven Colbert and playing Halo3. I guess I’m attempting to live up to a reputation of being the party guy when, in reality, I’m only out once or twice a week.
For music, fashion and party aficionados, A3TV is Must See TV.

Club Space Live Broadcasts - Remember Those?

So as many of you may remember, a few years ago there was a radio station created in Miami focused on dance music called Party 93.1.

I had the pleasure of working there for as the station's Promotions Director and on-air personality. Every Saturday night for an extended period of time I would broadcast live for three hours from Club Space. At the time, Space had one of the largest and most consistent line-up's of names in the country and I was previleged to broadcast with names like Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Paul Van Dyk, Oscar G, Steve Lawler, Roger Sanchez and many more.

In fact, just behind the DJ booth was a tiny little bathroom just big enough for a toilet and sink that would double as my broadcast booth. I would also use the bathroom to interview these artist before their set, so in all probability I have the somewhat questionable record for being in a bathroom with the most big name DJ's in the world. (INSERT SMARMY CLUB/BATHROOM JOKE HERE)

To me, those broadcasts will forever be etched in my memory as some of the most special moments I have ever experienced in 15 years I have been clubbing.

Recently someone sent me a download link to one of the broadcasts featuring Tiesto Live From Club Space on August 18th, 2002....

I remember it vividly as a definiting moment for my understand of what a DJ can do. Where the music, lights and crowd collide to create a breif explosion of energy.

When I listen to this mix, it still brings me back to those moments (with a chill running down my back.)

But a few notes: I have to admit, I have not yet heard some of the other nominees yet, especially as most have not yet played Miami, but often times from previous years we have seen the DJ/Producer get shafted for the normal POP REMIX flair because of name recognition. Lets hope things happen diferrently this year.

Good Luck Tijs (Tiesto's real name)! that statue will look great in your new Miami apartment!

The Miami Nightlife Website Wars Have Begun

When it comes to nightlife websites in Miami, two main sites come to mind...COOLJUNKIE.COM and CLUBPLANET.COM.

Cooljunkie.com, created by a charming English chap named Nick was purchased by Track Entertainment, which owns Clubplanet.com and brought in Nick and his team to run it.

For a few years the two lived in harmony. Cooljunkie.com mainly being used as a forum for club geeks to post events, see pictures, get on guests list or generally bitch about the state of nightlife in Miami.

Clubplanet.com, based out of it's Madison Ave office in NYC is a larger beast and far more nationally used as a resource for nightlife listings, pictures and info in markets throughout the US.

But a few months ago Nick has left his original creation of Cooljunkie.com and will be returning to Miami with a new site called talknightlife.com.

With Miami beeing one of the nightlife capitols of the US and the Winter Music Conference right around the corner, for scene watchers like us.....the show is about to begin!

Check out A3's other Blog Channels!

Over the years we have created sooooo much video content for the biggest names in nightlife that we barely know what to do with it all!

So we have begun organizing them into relevant categories that you can see to your right.

Presently you can see channels that include content we have created for Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Dj Rap and the Winter Music Conference, but we have a long way to go yet including Armin Van Buuren, Erick Morillo, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, The Ultra Music Festival and so much more......

Check back regurally and leave LOTS of comments....!

Tiesto Interview @ Winter Music Conference 2007

There are few dj/producers in the world who evoke the kind of passion that Tiesto does when brough up in conversation. Unless you are a die-hard "house head" most will immediatly bring up stories of where they were when they had their Tiesto "Moment." Originally from Holland, Tiesto's name is synonymous with massive walls of sound and music that takes you on a journey through peaks and valleys of energy culminating in massive explosions of energy. Spinning a mix of trance and "progressive house" Tiesto has always been a sucker for haunting vocals and etherial melodies. His tastes in venues have changed during the Winter Music Conference, and he has settled on a new tradition of playing one large venue (MANSION) and one smaller VIP style venue (The Setai Hotel) where he adjusts his music selections accordingly and plays with a little more of a "housey" feel as reflected in his famous summer series "In Search Of Sunrise."

He's come under fire in the last few years for what some consider "outrageous" fee's to spin, but in a world of consumerism, the market sets the prices and Tiesto fills up clubs from Miami to Tokyo to Cartegena.

Here we sit down with Tiesto, whose real name is Tijs Verwest just before the release of his "ELEMENTS OF LIFE" CD which has now been nominated for a Grammy Award.

Pete Tong, Frankie Knuckles and more at the BBC Radio 1 Party during Winter Music Conference 2007

Dj and radio personality Pete Tong can arguably be considered the voice of the global electronic music scene. With his radio show "The Essential Selection" initially gaining it's popularity on the BBC's Radio 1, but now syndicated throughout the world on various networks and online, Pete hosts a live broadcast from the WMC every year. Always one of the annual highlights of Conference week, this year's party changes locations from Nikki Beach Club to the pool at the Surfcomber Hotel on South Beach.

Armin Van Buuren On A3

With the Winter Music Conference right around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to show you some of the stuff we created from the WMC 2007 and tell you about the stories behind them.

We begin with the currently ranked #1 DJ in the world on DJ MAG's TOP 100, Armin Van Buuren.

When we first met Armin and his manager David for a sit down dinner/interview at Shoji Shushi on South Beach, my initial impression was how young he seemed. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't a teenager (actually I beleive he was around 28 at the time) but he seemed to have such a fresh energy and love for his craft. You also experience that same energy while he spins...as his smile rarely leaves his face.

You can take a look at our original interview with him here:

or see him perform at the Pawn Shop Lounge in downtown Miami during the Winter Music Conference 2007 by clicking here:

Welcome to the WatchA3 blog!

Here you will learn some of the stories behind our shoots, check out some of our favorite stuff and learn about the people, places and things that make A3 " The Night, Life & Style Network" the first programming concept of it's kind in the US.

First off, if you are new to the A3 Experience, then check this movie out below to see what we are all about!
